UV-C GERMICIDAL LIGHTING SOLUTIONS

The use of UV lighting to promote a healthier environment in homes and commercial buildings isn’t a new concept. UV-C lighting has been around for over 100 years with Paris has been using it for water purification since 1910. UV-C germicidal lights are used to kill or inactivate micro-organisms such as flu, colds, viruses, bacteria, mold, and fungi from the air, surface or water. UV-C are offered as stand-alone fixtures, ceiling lights, inside duct systems and as part of HVAC systems for offices, hospitality, schools, food services, sporting events, healthcare, etc.

Overview

UV light comes primarily from the sun, but there are also man-made sources of UV light.

There are three classes of UV light--UV-A, UV-B and UV-C :

  • UV-A and UV-B light cause sunburns, premature skin aging & development of skin cancer.
  • UV-C light, which has the most energy of all three types, is the most harmful, but it fortunately doesn’t reach the Earth’s surface because our atmosphere absorbs it.
  • There's man-made UV-C light, too: It works because UV-C light is strong enough to destroy genetic material—either DNA or RNA of viruses and bacteria.

Every micro-organism is susceptible to UV-C and other sanitizing lighting products. UV-C has been used in medical environments to eliminate up to 99.99% of pathogens for viruses, mold and bacteria.

  • UV refers to short-wavelength ultraviolet energy that is proven to kill bacteria and inactivate viruses.
  • These are short wavelengths are known as “UV-C” are centered at 254nm which is optimal for eliminating pathogens.
  • Germicidal effectiveness is referred to as a dose, which is the product of UV-C energy (how much) and time (how long).
  • UV-C is hypoallergenic and safe and effortless once installed and leaves no toxic irritant behind like Chemical Cleaners.
  • Overexposure to UVC light could damage a person’s skin and eyes.  To manage this risk— Parker Lighting works with UVC professionals to assess each location, set-up fixtures & create applications to ensure appropriate dosage & timeframe needed to disinfect the area.
